This comic was part of a project I did for my Shakespeare class in community college in spring of ‘08. I don’t really remember what the assignment wanted me to do, but I aced it with this snazzy comic adaption of a few scenes from Romeo and Juliet. I was new to Photoshop back then and I was trying to draw this comic in a week. So there are a lot of errors on here, but you can get the gist of it.
A fun fact about this comic. I remember I had to present it to the class as part of my final. You see, there was this girl who was in my class who was a real stick in the mud. She was very feminist and angry all of the time. I’m not against feminist or anything, but this girl was kind of a bitch. I remeber passing out the copies of my comic and hearing her scoff at it and just throw it in her bag before I said a word or explained what it was.
Fuck that girl.
I had a lot of differences with authority. I never really voiced it until I was almost done with college, but I guess that happens with any student. I don’t regret my education or any of my choices, I just like to complain.
I doubt anyone really noticed (I’ll state this again, I never knew if anyone read these comics) but I did several comics titled, “The exciting adventures of ULV students”. This joke was making fun of the fact there was really nothing exciting about ULV at all. The town was compiled of old people and the student body seemed to be dying for the tinniest taste of a party life, like as if it was the last drop of water in a vast desert. Either way I would always make these comics illustrating the odd life style of ULV students and staff.
I also found a comic about declawing cats. Which was both a stupid comic and a stupid editorial that should have never seen the light of day. Fucking cats.
At the beginning of the last semester of my Campus Times career I created a bucket list of things I wanted to get away with in print. One of those things was to include the word “fuck” in a comic. Another was call out Johnny Stimmel, which is what this one was. The editorial was about the banks fees that were regulated in the beginning of Obama’s presidency.
Typically when ever I used stick figures in a comic, it meant that I waited until the last minute to draw my comic that week and I was past my deadline (probably because I drank too much the night before). I would come up with gimmick comics like this that were basically just me lashing out at something (or someone) I hated.
Another thing on my bucket list was to draw a penis in a comic. That’s also another story to tell.
It’s crazy how well I remember all these editorials. This one was about FDA regulations or something. Okay, so here’s the context of all these ulv comics. During my three years at the University of La Verne I was the editorial cartoonist. I drew a comic each week relating to one of the two or three editorials someone would write for the paper.
In he beginning I was very conservative in being creative and writing with my own style because I didn’t know what I was doing. I kind of just did what I thought cartoonists were supposed to do. After my first semester of doing this, I began to stop caring what people thought and drew what I wanted.
From what I know, no really read what I drew anyways. Hence my comics became more more random as I neared my graduation. This would eventually lead to the greatest last comic I would ever write for ULV. But that story is for another post.
Does that school even have a gym anymore?
* ”Heroine” is spelt wrong. It should be “Heroin”. Good times Eric…good times.*

I’m working on coloring. I’m so cool. I think I might be getting sick. I simply must fight this with all my power.

I’m still messing around with my tablet. I haven’t quite gotten good with coloring yet, but I’ve been experimenting with implementing animation into my drawings. This is something that I have been wanting to do for a while. This is one of the key things I wanted to do with the tablet. Currently I’m working on small stuff like rain or with blinking, but I’ll start working on bigger things like animated comics and what not soon. I would also like to point out that wiener dogs are better than cats. Period.

Today has been an interesting day. It was both good and bad. I got my Wacom tablet and I have been watching Dexter for the first time. I felt that it was right my first drawing should be of the man himself. I’m very excited to make more stuff with my cool tablet.

This area was inspired by a bridge near a venue we were playing in Austin, TX. It was really beautiful, but I was not going through the best of times. Even through it all, I was able to remember the beauty when I got home to draw this comic. This was probably one of my favorite drawings I did for this book. I drew it while James sat on my bed and gossiped about Glee or something.
This image is a page from my comic book, They Don’t Know You. You can download it here.
I’m actually really excited because my comic is 2 downloads away from 100. That’s very awesome to me that anyone would be remotely interested in what I have to say. Thank you for helping make this project worth it.
Absolutepunk.net has read my comic, have you?
Download They Don’t Know You, here from Sean’s very awesome music blog (which you should follow as well) and read to your heart’s desire.
